This is a really great piece. STIs are obviously something I would like to avoid and I take all appropriate precautions as such, but getting one isn’t the worst thing that could happen to you and having one doesn’t make you a bad person.
It’s also interesting that the author got HSV-1 on her genitals. HSV-1 (oral herpes or cold sores) is so ridiculously common (Wikipedia says over 50% of people have it) and there’s no stigma (that I know of) associated with it. Is it just the location and means of transmission that imparts the stigma? I don’t know.
