yeah I feel good!

sonicthetrackhog:

I just got done working out with Zach. Not like that you pervs….

Here’s what I did:

  • 25 crunches with my feet flat on the floor, knees at 90 degrees, and straight up in the air
  • 25 crunches to each side
  • 26 bicycle crunches [did twice]
  • 30 sec planks [did twice]
  • 30 sec T-stands left & right
  • 25 push up with my ball [cause I can’t do real ones :) ]
  • 10 butt curls
  • 10 butt curls with arms [5 pound weights]
  • 20 pumping butt curls [“baby butt curls”]
  • 20 bicep curls
  • 20 overhead press
  • 20 triceps [first 10 with 10lbs second 10 with 5lbs cause it got hard]
  • 20 side zippers left & right
  • 25 left lifts
  • 10 leg throws straight, left, and right
  • 30 leg lifts with my stomach on my ball

…and I think that’s about it. Zach and I helped each other with the leg throws and timed each other for planks. It was nice working out with him. Now I’m drinking a mango, almond milk, oatmeal, and greek yogurt smoothie [I know it’s not the healthiest smoothie but it was all I had] to help recover.

 YAY WORKING OUT!

I will be a derby monster this year!

Liz and I are going to the gym and doing this workout and more tonight! Since we’re drunk bums and didn’t make it to Saturday practice today.

I generally scoff and become filled with rage whenever anyone says “exercise cures depression!!!!1!1” because obviously this is false. If exercise cured serious mental illness that would be swell, but it doesn’t.

But sometimes it really does help. Derby practice yesterday was great for my mood. Of course seeing my beautiful teammates helped, too.

My two personal goals for the season are to get rostered for at least one home and one away bout (and hopefully more) and to get my derby body back. Last night during “leg burners” I just repeated silently to myself: “roster, roster roster. ass, ass, ass.” and it worked.

Derby is also the best motivation I have to maintain my physical health, so there’s that.

2012 season, I’m ready. Let’s do this.

It’s official. I’m the board President for my roller derby league for the 2012 season. I hope I rock! Oh, and my Mister has been voted in as Head Coach. sweet.

And I’m Vice President of this same league. Whoa.

And I’m secretary. WOO!

And I’m not on the practice committee. Slightly relieved.

And I’m not on the practice committee. Slightly relieved.

Let me explain. If not for you, for me….

I love roller derby and I love being on this team. It’s been a great year and I think it has changed me slightly, but definitely for the better. I have especially loved being a part of the practice committee since its inception.

But I’m relieved. I get to just be a skater. I hope that doesn’t read poorly, because that’s not my intention. I’m anticipating the next practice when I can skate my hardest and only concentrate on what I need to work on.

And even though I won’t be on the PC this upcoming season, I’m excited for those ladies that will. I anticipate even more exciting things for CFDD’s second season!

I feel you, girl—quitting the practice committee was the best thing I did for my derby experience. I’m infinitely more happy being a skater.

Scrimmage night tonight. I’m hoping not to play like an idiot.
Last scrimmage I was pouting in the box because I’d got sent off on a track cut I knew I hadn’t done. While the other refs were tending to a down skater, our ref Doc came over to me.Him: You were right on that one, that was legal.Me: I knew it!!!Him: Yeah, but those other 5 majors so far tonight were all your fault.
Whoops. Here’s to less time in the box tonight.

It was fun!

These are incredible. Our photographer, Lauren Bultman, is amazing, and of course the dames are beautiful models (my derby wife is the main girl!). Our October 30th bout is zombie themed!

Things I’ve gotten from roller derby:

-tree trunk thighs

-More knee-high socks than one person probably needs

-A new and improved badonkulous ass

-New friends near and far

-Chronic neck pain

It’s that last one I’m worried about. I’ve always carried tension in my neck and shoulders, like a lot of people, but ever since I got injured back in January (sternum injury + concussion), my neck has been sore—whiplash, I think. Now that I’ve started lifting weights and working out more, it hurts all the time and I can’t really move it through the full range of motion.

Ruh roh. I need to go to a chiropractor and get my shit adjusted. Or something.

Any of my derby readers have neck pain issues after any injury?

My cousin and two of his kids came to my bout, and he wrote a blog post about it. His mom (my aunt) has dementia/Alzheimer’s and is on her last days right now, and he wrote about how much he loved the bout and what a great distraction it was for him during this time, which made me really happy.
We’re really different people (he’s “a conservative Anglican priest”), and his church is, from what I understand, not very gay friendly. But he described me very positively despite the fact that he knows I’m queer, and that means a lot.
